Isadoora Announces 2005-2006 Season of Theatre

Isadoora Theatre Company, Door County's only community-based theatre company, offers residents and visitors another thought-provoking fourth season of theatre with two plays and a musical.

The season begins in October with Talking With by Jane Martin. Directed by Gayle Johnson, Talking With is a delightful series of monologues about enthusiasms that become obsessions, delivered by eleven women of widely different backgrounds, temperaments, voices and quirks. The show runs October 20-23 at Third Avenue Playhouse, Sturgeon Bay and October 27-30 at Ephraim Village Hall.

With the success of Side by Side by Sondheim, Isadoora produces another Stephen Sondheim musical, Assassins. This musical, with a book by John Weidman, explores the history of presidential assassination in America, from John Wilkes Booth to John Hinckley, Jr. Sondheim's website describes Assassins as about "how society interprets the American Dream, marginalizes outsiders and rewrites and sanitizes its collective history." On Broadway in 2004 and the winner of five Tony awards, the music has been described as "soaring and ravishing." Directed by Christi Callsen, Assassins runs February 9-12 at Ephraim Village Hall and February 16-19 at Third Avenue Playhouse.

Closing the season will be two one-acts by Anton Chekhov, one of Russia's most cherished storytellers and great dramatists. In May, theatre-lovers will be treated to The Bear and The Proposal. In The Bear (1888) a creditor hounds a young widow, but becomes so impressed when she agrees  to fight a duel with him, that he proposes marriage. One of Chekhov's favorite comic themes, The Proposal starts out as an innocent declaration of love that goes horribly awry. Directed by Pete and Gabrielle Daniels, the plays run May 4-7 at Ephraim Village Hall and May 11-14 at Third Avenue Playhouse.

Isadoora most recently performed The Laramie Project, The Foreigner and An Actor's Nightmare in northern Door County and Sturgeon Bay. Isadoora Theatre Company celebrates theatre through its basic elements of movement, music, story and thought. The company provides theatrical experiences of intellectual integrity fulfilled by open self-examination and artistic risk for the educational and cultural enrichment of the community.
