Isadoora Announces 5th Anniversary Season

Something Celebrating its fifth anniversary, Isadoora Theatre Company announces a full slate of ambitious theatrical works for their 2006-07 season.  The line up of shows includes Art by Yasmina Reza, Chicago by Bob Fosse, Fred Ebb, and John Kander, and The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams.

Isadoora kicks off its fifth season with Art by Yasmina Reza.  Pete Daniels, who directed Isadoora’s previous productions of The Foreigner and The Bear & The Proposal, will return as Director.  Art will be staged October 13-15 at the Peninsula Art School, Fish Creek and October 19-22 at Third Avenue Playhouse, Sturgeon Bay.  Art is a comedy that won the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play.  The play means different things to different people.  It is a powerful play that shows how life and art mirror each other, and the script is open to many interpretations.  Audiences will delight in the humor and wit while also finding food for thought.

The Isadoora season will continue with the musical Chicago by Bob Fosse, Fred Ebb, and John Kander.  Ross Dippel will direct the show with choreography by Julia LaViolette and music direction by Andrew Olson.  Chicago is one of Broadway’s most popular and thrilling musicals.  The winner of six Tony Awards, it’s an electrifying tale of greed, murder, and show biz.  “Chicago's plot was cynical and satirical in 1975, but today feels like a documentary." So says Walter Bobbie, the director responsible for the 1997 revival.  “It’s a musical vaudeville, full of Roaring '20s jazz-based music and dance.”  Auditions will be held Tues, Aug 22 and Wed, Aug 23 at the Door Community Auditorium.  Chicago’s opening performance is Thurs, Feb 15, 2007 with the show running Feb 15-18 and Feb 22-25th.  All performances will be held at the Door Community Auditorium.

The Glass Menagerie will be directed by Dr. Arthur Hopper and will open May 17, 2007 and will run May 17-20, May 24-27th.  All performances will be held at the Ephraim Village Hall.  The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams is widely regarded as modern theatre’s most famous work.  The play premiered in Chicago on December 26, 1944 and in 1945 won the prestigious New York Drama Critics Circle Award. The Glass Menagerie was Williams's first highly successful play; he went on to become one of America's most highly regarded playwrights.  Isadoora Theatre Company will announce auditions for this production at a later date.

"Isadoora enters its fifth anniversary season with its most ambitious slate of shows yet," said Artistic Director Christi Callsen.  “We’ve established ourselves as a serious theatre company and now we want to continue to grow into that role by taking on works that prove how strong our talent really is.  Our slate of directors is exceptional this season,” she continued.

Isadoora’s season runs during Door County’s “off-season” to delight the community with theatre year-round.  The mission of Isadoora Theatre Company, a Door County community theatre company, is to celebrate theatre through its basic elements of movement, music, story and thought. Isadoora Theatre seeks to further educate the community by providing theatrical experiences of intellectual integrity fulfilled by open self-examination and artistic risk.   Isadoora fulfills its mission by producing an annual season of theatre and offering workshops to community members.
