Isadoora To Perform "The Bear" & "The Proposal"

Something wacky and wonderful's afoot this spring! To those in the know, it'll come as no surprise that it's connected with Isadoora Theatre. Another theater production with plenty of laughs and lots of risk-taking. Isadoora's mission includes an express desire to take artistic chances.

Opening May 5th in Ephraim Village Hall, "Chekhov Unchecked" does just that. Including two of Russian playwright Anton Chekhov's earliest one-act plays - The Bear & The Proposal - this comedic evening is sure to have you laughing in the aisles, even while it keeps you wondering what can possibly happen next. Originally written in 1888, both comedies are set in a post-Apocalyptic world where anything goes.

In "The Proposal," Ivan Lomov comes calling to ask for the hand of his neighbor's daughter Natasha. The question is, if the sensitive hypochondriac survives the proposal will he survive the marriage? "The Bear" brings us to the home of Madam Popova, a young widow who has "buried herself alive within these four walls" to mourn the death of her seldom-home, two-timing late husband. Her 7 month vigil ends with the appearance of Grigory Stepanovich Smirnof who is trying to collect on a debt owed him by the late Mr. Popov. These two fiery characters may just come out with pistols blazing - but they will always keep you guessing.

The fun-filled performances are scheduled in Ephraim May 5th and 6th at 7:30 pm, and May 7th at 2:00 pm; and at Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay on May 12th and 13th at 7:30 pm and May 14th at 2:00 pm. Reservations are encouraged and can be placed by calling 920-493-DOOR (3667). Please note that this production is geared toward older children and adults. People with young children who wish to see the show may call the School of Music and Art at 495-9914. Child care will be available at the school on Sunday, May 14th.

The two one-acts are directed by husband-wife team Pete and Gabrielle Daniels and feature the following talented local performers: Josh Blevins, Andy Hall, Mary Hall, Jim Lautenbach, Keith Pieschek, and Sharon Tupa.
