Isadoora Theatre Company Announces Cast for "The Laramie Project"

BAILEYS HARBOR (April 18, 2004) Isadoora Theatre Company announces the cast for the “The Laramie Project,” directed by Henry Timm.

Starring in "The Laramie Project” are Richard Baker, Josh Blevins, Craig McClelland, Karen McClelland, David Clowers, Amy Ensign, Ed Huyck, Adrienne Kent, Jim Lautenbach, Renata Maniaci, Caitlin Oleson, Vance Toivanen, David Rothrock and Kyra Valentine.

“The Laramie Project” revolves around the murder of Matthew Shepard in October 1998 who was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. He was the victim of this assault because he was gay.

Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Some people interviewed were directly connected to the case, and others were citizens of Laramie. Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences called “The Laramie Project.”

“It’s hard to think of ourselves as violent people, yet things happen inAmerica that allow others to describe us that way,” says Timm. “The death if Matthew Shepard is one such event and “The Laramie Project” examines the impact of thatincident on the community in which it occurred. The loss of the youngthrough violence maims the future for all of us. This is true for victimand aggressor alike. It is crucial that we examine such occurrences in away that seeks to draw redemption out of the ashes of our loss. That is the search that draws me and I think the members of the acting company to this play. I hope we can realize that search for our audiences as well.”
