“WAITING FOR LEFTY ” to close Isadoora's Ninth Season

Isadoora Theatre Company is excited to announce auditions for their upcoming production of Waiting for Lefty by Clifford Odets and directed by Ross Dippel, May 13-15 and 19-22 at the Ephraim Village Hall.  Thursday through Saturday performances will be at 7:30pm with Sunday matinees at 2pm.

Written in 1935, Waiting for Lefty is loosely based on the New York City taxi cab drivers’ strike of 1934. Consisting of a series of vignettes, the play is framed by the meeting of the cab drivers’ union, which is debating whether or not to go on strike.  The vignettes are either set at the union meeting or feature a member of the union and reveal the social injustices in his or her life.

Isadoora will no longer present ‘night, Mother this season as formerly publicized. Isadoora Artistic Director Mary Hall explains, “The current issues in our State have prompted a change to our 9th Season closer.  Instead of our previously announced ‘night, Mother, we have chosen to present a show that is directly correlated to the issues at hand: Clifford Odets's 1935 landmark piece, Waiting for Lefty.  In this time of political turmoil, we feel that the best thing any arts organization can do is foster a creative environment that promotes thoughtful conversation and consideration.”

Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 19 & Sunday, March 20.  Saturday’s auditions will be from 1:00pm-4:45pm at the Jane Green Room at the Sturgeon Bay Library.  Sunday’s auditions will be from 1:00pm-5:00pm at Bjorklunden Lodge in Baileys Harbor.  Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script; those auditioning may also choose to present a prepared piece, “whatever they feel serves them best,” according to director Dippel.  Everyone is encouraged to audition, and there is no need to be present for the entire time slot.  Those wishing to audition should make every effort to appear at one of the audition sessions; however, those who cannot attend either audition session should call Isadoora at 920.493.3667 to set up an appointment.

The mission of Isadoora Theatre Company is to celebrate theatre through its basic elements of movement, music, story and thought.
