Isadoora Announces Cast for "Chicago"

January 17, 2007  - Isadoora Theatre Company presents “Chicago The Musical” by Bob Fosse, Fred Ebb and John Kander. An electrifying tale of greed, murder and show biz, it is being performed at the Door Community Auditorium (DCA), February 15-18 and 22-25 in Fish Creek.

The show is being directed by Ross Dippel with musical direction by Andrew Olson and choreography by Jane Hillstrom. Thirty-plus local actors, singers, dancers and musicians have been rehearsing since September to bring this popular musical to the peninsula.

“This is a ‘must-see’ show and I predict it will be the talk of the peninsula for years to come,” said Ross Dippel, director. “Some of Door County’s most talented performing artists are challenging one of Broadway’s sexiest musicals. It has been thrilling to watch them as they have taken ownership of what The New York Times calls ‘a musical for the ages.’ I’d suggest everyone get their tickets now.”

“Chicago” is one of Broadway’s most popular musicals. The winner of six Tony Awards, it is filled with songs such as “All That Jazz” and “Razzle Dazzle.” It realized a surge in popularity with the release of the movie starring Catherine Zeta Jones and Renee Zellweger in 2002.

“Kander and Ebb have taken familiar vaudeville tunes and modeled each song in the show after favorite melodies,” said Andrew Olson, music director. “The audience will walk away humming their favorite tune and maybe even tapping their toes at the same time. The singing talent and orchestral talent combine in our production to create one of the best ensembles to ever hit Door County stages, and what a blessing it is to have Door Community Auditorium welcome Isadoora with open arms.”

At the opening of the show, we are introduced to Velma Kelly -- a vaudevillian who shot the other half of her sister act when she caught her husband cheating with her sister. Playing Kelly is Emilie Rose Bishop accompanied by the foxy, Roxy Hart played by Christine Callsen. Hervy L. Hodges plays the manipulative lawyer, Billy Flynn. Andy Hall plays Amos Hart. Matron Mama is being played by Holly Feldman and J. Blevins is Mary Sunshine. Completing the cast are Richard Baker, Jeffrey Berger, Ann Birnschein, Doug Blahnik, Levi Blevins, David Clowers, Kim Eckstein, Gretel Goettelman (dance captain), Jane Hillstrom, Jamie Kittinger, Julia Maskell, Andrea Nikoupolis-Weliky, Keith Pieschek, Jessica Tedrick and Sara Thierfelder.

Dance consultant is Julia LaViolette who choreographed “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango.” Stage manager is Kristin Roach with Bill Bauernfeind as assistant stage manager. Costume designer is Marty Todd with set design and lighting by Kurt Thomas. Sandi Blevins is prop mistress and Pete Evans is sound technician. Playing onstage under conductor Andrew Olson are members of the orchestra Craig Little, Bruce Newbern, George Draeb, Andy Anderson, Craig McClelland, Phil Stangel, Craig Konowalski, and Kathy Little. Jendean Olson has been the rehearsal accompanist.

With twenty musical numbers, the cast has been rehearsing five days a week. “Chicago: The Musical” is based on the play “Chicago” by Maurine Dallas Watkins. Thursday through Saturday shows are at 7:30 pm. Sunday matinees are at 2:00 pm. Tickets are available for $15 by calling the DCA box office at 920-868-2728. The Door Community Auditorium is located at 3926 Hwy. 42, Fish Creek.
