Calling all promising actors! If your struggle to get through the audition is keeping you from your moment on stage Isadoora has the solution. Isadoora Theatre Company will hold a free audition workshop taught by expert Dr. Arthur Hopper on Sunday, November 7. The workshop is from 2:00 5:00 pm at Third Avenue Playhouse in Sturgeon Bay and is open to the public.
"This workshop is for people who have played leads to people who have never set a foot on stage," says Andrew Olson, Isadoora president. "We are honored to have Dr. Hopper direct us through the proper way to audition."
Dr. Hopper retired four and a half years ago as Chairman of the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where he taught acting and directing. His directing credits include well over two hundred plays and musicals, and his former students have appeared on Broadway, television and in regional theatre, including Door Shakespeare, Peninsula Players and in Isadoora productions.
A specialist in the audition process, Dr. Hopper has conducted audition workshops nationally and regionally. "I am pleased to offer my expertise to Isadoora Theatre Company," says Hopper. "I've been impressed with Isadoora and what they have accomplished in the two short years of their existence. I'm looking forward to working with all of the local Door County talent."
During the workshop Dr. Hopper will cover the audition process. Attendees are welcome to actually come prepared to do a "mock audition" after which Dr. Hopper will critique and work with the auditioner to improve. Prepared auditions should not exceed three minutes and can be a song, reading or monologue. Attendees are also welcome to simply observe.
"The workshop will focus on the prepared and the cold audition," says Hopper. "If you go to an audition and the director hands you a script and says 'Be ready in five minutes' how do you use that five minutes?"
"This workshop is great preparation for upcoming auditions for Isadoora's production of 'The Foreigner' and other community shows," says Olson.
The workshop is open to ages 14 on up. There is no charge, however, reservations are required. Please indicate if you wish to do a mock audition. RSVP by calling Isadoora at 920-493-3667.
